Power quality products make low-voltage network stronger

The energy transition is bringing new challenges to distribution network operators (DSOs). Large solar power integration, enormous growth of EV chargers and heat pumps on the consumer side are creating various power quality issues to low-voltage networks. Power quality of distribution networks is very important for future network expansion.

Poor power quality, such as supply voltage variation, voltage unbalance and harmonic distortion can affect performance of electrical equipment, even damage them and lead to unsafe operating conditions. Power quality issues will be emphasized especially at long feeder lines, where insufficient fault current and improper operation of protection devices may cause additional safety problems at the customer connection point.

Ensto’s power quality products enable quick solution to overcome these issues with the minimal investment costs to low-voltage networks.

Why to choose power quality solution?

  • Improves power quality in weak low-voltage distribution networks.
  • Maximizes capacity of low-voltage feeder and reduces energy losses.
  • Improves electrical safety at the customer connection point.
  • Quick and easy to install.
  • Suitable for reuse.

Phase Balancer Mitigates Voltage Variation and Load Unbalance in Low-Voltage Networks

The Phase Balancer mitigates voltage unbalance in low-voltage distribution networks and improves safety at the same time. Using Phase Balancer is an easy and cost-effective way to enjoy safe and balanced electricity without worry about light flicker or overloaded network.

The Phase Balancer offers multiple features that help DSO's to improve network capacity. It can be used in several different locations depending on which power quality issue has to be solved. Parallel connection allows quick and secure installation. Communication interface enables remote condition monitoring.

  • Improves power quality – Stabilize voltage unbalance, reduce flicker and total harmonic distortion (THD).
  • Improves capacity of LV feeders – Maximizes the existing distribution capacity and associated cost by means of balanced phases.
  • Reduces energy losses – Minimizes unbalance-induced neutral current and distribution transformer losses.
  • Improves electrical safety – Improves short-circuit capacity at the customer connection point and reduce protection devices’ operation time.
  • Cost-efficient – Enables minimal investment costs, as there is no need for network reinforcement nor service breaks.
  • Communication capability – The Modbus RTU protocol communication is supported over the RS-232 serial interface port.

Voltage Controller – A line voltage regulator for low-voltage networks

The Voltage Controller is a solution to mitigate large voltage variations in low-voltage distribution lines. It is a device which automatically and autonomously adjust the line voltage to the permitted level.

The Voltage Controller can be installed close to consumer connection point in rural and residential areas where single phase service is available. It measures the feeding line voltage and stepwise increase or decrease the voltage into the tolerance at the end of line. Especially in rural areas it enables higher amount of photovoltaic feed-in power and compensate line drops.

  • Autonomous voltage regulation – wide regulation and control range.
  • Cost-efficient – economic solution compared to network reinforcement.
  • Safe – Double isolated, no need for grounding.
  • Compact and easy to install – Quick commissioning, no settings or calibration.
  • Reusable and environmental friendly – Air-cooled, free of oil.
