Medisiina D is a new building for medical teaching, research, and diagnostics, having recently been completed in Turku. The University of Turku, Varsinais-Suomen sairaanhoitopiiri, the Turku University of Applied Sciences, and the National Institute for Health and Welfare all operate in the building. The multi-use building has been tailored to the needs of its users and contains a variety of spaces from lecture halls to laboratory and teaching spaces. Ensto illuminated the unique and modern office and teaching building by bringing the best LED lighting solutions to the demanding medical environment of Medisiina D.
Ensto offered its project expertise, and the long projected lifespan of the luminaires convinced the customer to switch to LED lighting. Tammelan Talotekniikka Oy, a contractor at the site, carried out the lighting calculations in collaboration with Ensto. The luminaires chosen from Ensto’s selection have a timeless design and they blend in seamlessly with the modern public and laboratory spaces.
Medisiina D is intelligently designed, and its spaces are multipurpose. The flexibility of the spaces is emphasised in the teaching and office spaces. The rooms can be altered and divided according to changing needs. ‘Ensto’s luminaires were presented to the customer at the beginning of the project by building a realistic model room’, relates area manager Aki Saine of Ensto Lighting. The quality light and multifaceted lighting selection convinced the customer that Ensto was the right supplier for this project, as a provider of complete solutions. At the beginning of the project, the designer and contractor collaborated closely, and the end result in Medisiina D is brilliant lighting in every area’, says Saine.
The building is architecturally attractive with its ten colour-coded stories. Its high-ceilinged lobby invites you to step inside, and the walls have an acoustic layered structure, with an engraving of human DNA. The colour scheme is based on the different fields and chronological development of medicine, and it is accentuated by the good lighting. Medisiina D is a bright, spacious, and pleasant space.
